В СамГТУ разработали систему мониторинга водопропускных сооружений для железных дорог

The new system automates the process of monitoring and preventing accidents on railway tracks

A system for monitoring the condition of culverts on railways, developed at the Samara State Technical University (Samara Polytech) by order of Russian Railways, has successfully passed preliminary tests. Field tests of the pilot model will begin in the spring.

The system is designed to monitor the condition of structures and prevent blockages and emergencies; data will be collected through a mobile application. The project automates the monitoring and prevention process.

The problem of track erosion is especially relevant in spring and autumn, when melt or rainwater can flood the embankment. Culverts (pipes and bridges) are often clogged with debris, leading to emergency situations. The new system automates the process and promptly notifies of problems.

Ultra-high frequency sensors will track the degree of blockage, and ultrasonic level meters will track the water level. When a blockage approaches, the system automatically notifies the user via a mobile application, indicating the exact location and parameters of the problem. This will allow for prompt troubleshooting and accident prevention.

Field tests of the pilot model in the spring near Novokuibyshevsk will help to verify the effectiveness of the system. After confirming its operation, specialists from Samara Polytech are ready to establish mass production of devices. The need for railway infrastructure is estimated at a minimum of 2.5 thousand control systems.
