Sales of road construction equipment (RCE) in Russia in the period from January to October 2023 decreased by 5.5% compared to the same period last year, amounting to 61.1 billion rubles. This was reported by the Russian Association of Special Machinery Manufacturers "Rosspetsmash".
Equipment production decreased by 11%, and imports decreased by 7.9%. The association notes that equipment stocks in the warehouses of enterprises and dealers continue to grow, while demand for products is falling.
The most significant reduction in shipments is observed in the excavator segment. Here, the decrease was 44.9%. Deliveries of cranes and motor graders also decreased by 29.9% and 25.6%, respectively. At the same time, shipments of pipe-laying cranes and bulldozers increased by 1.9%, and loaders by 37.6%.
According to a study by Sherpa Group, the volume of construction work in Russia in January-September 2024 increased by 2.5%. However, the growth rate of construction activity was minimal in three quarters, which also affects the RCE market.
Rosspetsmash attributes the cooling of demand for road construction equipment to the high key rate, due to which enterprises and buyers postpone investment programs. In addition, the current rules for paying for work on government construction projects also negatively affect sales.
