Specialists from the Rosatom State Corporation have manufactured experimental fuel based on oxide MOX fuel and dense nitride SNUP fuel (mixed nitride uranium-plutonium nuclear fuel) for the promising BN-1200 reactor (fast neutron reactor with sodium coolant), the corporation's press service reported.
For testing in the BN-600 "fast" reactor at the Beloyarsk NPP, an OS-4 irradiation assembly with fuel elements based on SNUP fuel has been manufactured.
The peculiarity of this assembly is the achievement of an increased level of nuclear fuel burnup, which will meet the needs of the developed core design.
3 unique experimental assemblies based on MOX fuel (nuclear fuel containing several types of oxides of fissile materials) with an axial layer have been manufactured. Its operation will reduce radiation damage to the fuel element cladding while maintaining the required fuel burnup depth.
