The S-500 "Triumfator-M" anti-aircraft missile system is capable of shooting down the Long Range Hypersonic Weapon LRHW medium-range hypersonic missile. This opinion was expressed by retired Colonel Mikhail Khodarenok.
The United States previously conducted a successful test of the LRHW medium-range hypersonic missile system. The Dark Eagle missile was launched from a standard launcher.
Developed by Lockheed Martin, the missile is designed to deliver a massive missile strike and is capable of traveling up to 3,000 km. According to the engineers' idea, the hypersonic gliding unit of the missile should reach speeds of over 6,000 km/h.
There is reason to believe that the promising S-500 Triumfator-M anti-aircraft missile system, which has the potential for strategic missile defense, will cope with US hypersonic weapons.
The S-500 Prometheus (Triumfator-M R&D) belongs to a new generation of surface-to-air missile systems. It is a universal high-altitude intercept and long-range system with enhanced missile defense potential. The system is capable of destroying not only ballistic but also aerodynamic targets, as well as cruise missiles. The range of destruction is about 600 km.
