At the South Ural State University (SUSU), a laboratory sample of a new type of thermal insulation, foam phenoplast, has been developed for the first time in Russia. This was reported by the university's press service.
The material will replace polyurethane foam, which was previously made from imported methyldiphenyldiisocyanate. The development is planned to be used for insulating houses and pipelines.
This is a new thermal insulation material that can completely replace traditional polyurethane foam. This new material is based on phenol and formalin, which are produced in large quantities in Russia.
The sample has been tested for density, strength, water absorption, and thermal conductivity. In the near future, it is planned to conduct pilot industrial tests and adapt the technology for mass production.
The expected operating temperature of foam phenoplast exceeds the indicators of traditional thermal insulation materials and is about 140 °C. However, the upper limit has not yet been determined.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that a new polymer with maximum biocompatibility will be created in St. Petersburg to replace titanium in the production of prostheses.
