The Don State Technical University (DSTU) has modified concrete with the help of nanodiamonds. This was reported by the university's press service.
Adding a solution of nanodiamonds to the concrete mix up to one percent of the cement mass can significantly improve the strength properties of concrete and accelerate the process of gaining strength, and the best result was achieved with a dosage of 0.4 percent.
The compressive and flexural strength of concrete increased by more than 28% after two days and by more than 15% after 28 days. This discovery has high practical significance for the construction industry.
The use of nanodiamonds in certain proportions can reduce the consumption of expensive components, such as cement and high-quality aggregates. Their introduction into mass production of concrete will save up to 15% per cubic meter of concrete mix.
