Indian authorities have turned away from Russia, sharply reducing orders for military equipment, and have begun to purchase more from Western suppliers. This is reported by Bloomberg.
Plans by India and Russia to jointly develop and produce helicopters and advanced fighters have been postponed, according to senior Indian officials who asked not to be named.
As Bloomberg writes, Russia is also unlikely to train Indian sailors to serve on a nuclear submarine. The only active contract between the two countries is the supply of the remaining S-400 air defense systems.
In 2023, only 36% of India's arms imports came from Russia. In 2009, this figure was 76%.
According to the U.S. Congressional Research Service, since 2018, India has signed contracts worth about $20 billion for military products manufactured in the United States. India's state-owned company Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. and General Electric are close to signing an agreement on the joint production of an advanced version of jet engines for the next generation of light combat aircraft.
As a reminder, earlier Russia offered India to supply Tu-160M "White Swan" bombers. New Delhi hopes to return to the Ka-226T helicopter development project.
