They will install an X-ray spectrometer on the Zvezda module

The extravehicular activity of Russian cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Wagner is scheduled for December 19, Roscosmos announced.

The cosmonauts were preparing for a spacewalk under the Russian program EVA-63. They will stay on the ISS for about six months. During this time, they will perform extravehicular activity only once.

It is planned that during the spacewalk, scientific equipment will be installed on the external surface of the ISS. This refers to the SPIN-X1-MVN X-ray spectrometer. The device will allow a complete survey of the celestial sphere in the X-ray range. The removal of the old equipment will be carried out using the ERA manipulator.

It is worth recalling that the German ERA manipulator, developed by Fokker Space, is part of the technical equipment of the Nauka module. With its help, cosmonauts move during spacewalks.
