The first reactor of the Akkuyu NPP in Turkey is scheduled to be commissioned in 2025. This is stated in the development plan for the country for the next year, approved by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Work on completing the construction of the Akkuyu NPP, the first nuclear power plant in Turkey, is ongoing, and nuclear fuel was delivered to the site in 2023. The first power unit of the power plant, which has a total installed capacity of 4,800 MW and will provide approximately 10% of Turkey's electricity needs upon completion of construction, is planned to be commissioned in 2025.
It is worth noting that next year Turkey will receive an additional 1,200 MW in the field of nuclear energy, in addition to the existing power generation capacities. In terms of total electricity production, an increase of 64 GW is expected due to the Akkuyu NPP.
