Yandex is launching a new direction in developing autonomous cameras with artificial intelligence to monitor the assortment on store shelves and the overall order in retail spaces. The neural network will be launched in December and will be used by major retailers in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan who can afford to use computer vision technologies.

Yandex explained to the "Kommersant" publication that computer vision works based on data from surveillance cameras. The system collects and systematizes data about the hall and creates a digital twin of the store. In this virtual "Smart Store," artificial intelligence will track the congestion of aisles in the store, the availability of goods and price tags on shelves, as well as the correctness of the layout of goods.

The neural network is expected to help save on hiring human employees and on the need to pay and raise their salaries. However, the costs of implementing and maintaining the system can be significant and may not pay off in the near future, which not every business can afford.
