UAZ "Patriot" is planning to install a new JAC diesel engine after the initial attempt to install a Ford engine proved impractical due to the need for significant changes in the car's design, such as reconfiguring the side members.
As a result, the updated 2025 "Patriot" was chosen to receive a 2.0-liter diesel unit, which was previously installed on the Sollers Argo, but with improved output — 136 hp instead of 130 hp in the Argo.
JAC engines do not cause significant operational complaints: they are quite reliable, but not without features typical of Chinese engines, such as an average level of quality and the possibility of problems with ease of operation due to layout features.
Prices for the new UAZ "Patriot" with a diesel engine are likely to increase by 10-12%, which is due to the need to localize the production of the power unit, and not to economic benefits. The updated version will be more expensive due to the additional costs of developing and installing a new engine, as well as upgrading other components of the car.
