Rostec has developed new meteorological instruments to replace imported equipment

New ceilometers from Shvabe will help ensure the safety of airfields

New meteorological instruments from Rostec are designed to replace foreign counterparts. The Shvabe holding has developed devices for solving a number of meteorological tasks that were previously performed using imported equipment.

The ceilometers included in this line of instruments are designed for remote measurement of the distance from the earth's surface to the lower boundary of clouds in the range from 10 to 3000 meters. Collecting such information is a mandatory requirement for airfields and heliports, as it is necessary to ensure flight safety.

A nephelometer has also been developed — a device that automatically measures the meteorological optical range along a horizontal path in the range from 10 to 50 thousand meters. This parameter is affected by dust, solid and liquid precipitation, smoke, fog and other atmospheric phenomena. This data is especially important for flight safety, as well as for sea and river navigation, where navigation depends on an accurate assessment of visibility.

Both devices can operate autonomously or as part of meteorological stations. The measurement results are transmitted to a remote computer for further analysis, which simplifies their use in various conditions.

Currently, foreign devices are widely used in Russia to solve such problems. Shvabe devices are capable of replacing foreign equipment and strengthening the independence of the domestic meteorological industry.
