KMZ has developed a technology for creating elements of a ship's drainage system

The drainage system is used after sealing breaches

The Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant (KMZ) military-industrial holding has developed a technology for casting the main elements of a ship's drainage system. It is used after temporary sealing of breaches in the ship's hull, the holding's press service reported.

According to Vladimir Khotin, a metallurgical engineer at SKB-3 (part of KMZ), the most difficult thing is to maintain the geometry of the casting of elements due to sections up to 5 mm thick.

Specific defects, underfill and fusion are possible in such castings.

The specialists determined the optimal content of zinc and silicon in the alloy, making it fluid. Thus, they managed to avoid the formation of defects.

The ship's drainage system consists of a pump, a main pipeline, branches, end, side, bottom and track fittings.
