A small Norwegian fishing vessel Ragnhild Kristine collided with the Russian anti-submarine ship "Admiral Levchenko" (Project 1155) of the Northern Fleet, which was participating in strategic exercises in the Barents Sea. The incident occurred on September 12, but it only became known now, writes Defence blog.
There was a crew of 5 people on board the fishing vessel. Senior Captain's Assistant Eystein Orten stated that he received a warning over the radio: "This is a Russian warship, you need to leave the area."
As Defence blog writes, the ship was in the maritime border zone north of the Varanger Peninsula, in the exclusive economic zone of Norway. Despite the warning, the fishermen did not change their course.
"Admiral Levchenko" is a 163-meter anti-submarine destroyer that approached a 15-meter fishing vessel, stopping only 200 meters from it. The warship sounded its horn, and then a warning shot followed.
The Norwegian Coast Guard confirmed that the vessel Ragnhild Kristine received a warning from "Admiral Levchenko". At the same time, the Russian ship did not fire a warning shot, the department noted.
