At the current stage, it is premature to talk about creating a single BRICS currency. This was announced by Dmitry Birichevsky, Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
As for a single BRICS currency or unit of account, it is difficult to talk about the prospects and possible timing of its appearance at this stage. This initiative is in the expert study stage.
According to him, the creation of effective payment and settlement mechanisms operating under sanctions pressure is currently being discussed. The creation of a platform for the use of digital currencies of the BRICS member countries is also being considered.
It is worth noting that talks about the development of a single currency were held in early July this year. Despite the fact that the timing of its appearance is not clear, the direction has been set.
