Московский планетарий: редкое сближение Марса и Юпитера произойдет 14 августа

The closest approach of Mars and Jupiter will occur on Wednesday evening

A rare astronomical phenomenon — the closest approach of Mars and Jupiter — will occur on August 14. On this day, the planets will approach each other to within 18.4 arcminutes at 17:45 Moscow time. To assess the dynamics of their convergence, specialists at the Moscow Planetarium recommend observing them throughout August.

Mars and Jupiter will be visible to the naked eye in the clear night sky from midnight until dawn, especially in the constellation Taurus. They will be close enough to each other to be seen simultaneously in the field of view of a telescope or binoculars.

The brightness and visibility of the planets this month will make this conjunction one of the most impressive astronomical events of the year, the planetarium noted.
