The State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) continues to modernize equipment at the Lovozero Mining and Processing Plant in the Murmansk Region, which is the only enterprise in Russia that mines loparite (a source of tantalum, niobium, titanium, and rare earth elements). This was reported by the corporation's press service.
In 2024, a new drum drying unit was launched at the factory, belts were replaced, conveyor drives were repaired, and scales and drainage pumps were installed. The company acquired 3 "grizzlies" (vibrating screens, sieves for separating ore mass by fraction). By the end of the year, an electrostatic separator, a flotation machine, and a mill will be delivered to the Lovozero Mining and Processing Plant.
Loparite ore is mined at the Karnasurt mine in the Lovozero district of the Murmansk region. Underground electric locomotives and mine cars were put into operation here, and mine cages and hoisting machines were replaced. Engineers are designing the creation of new underground mine workings.
Rosatom plans to increase the production of loparite concentrate at the Lovozero Mining and Processing Plant. The raw materials will be sent to the Solikamsk Magnesium Plant for the extraction of rare earth metals.
