Specialists from Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU) have developed a new method for producing steel parts that improves the performance characteristics of products.
The new approach, known as layer-by-layer plasma metallization, solves the problems of overheating and temperature fluctuations that are characteristic of additive technologies based on material melting.
The development will allow the use of additive manufacturing technologies for products consisting of several materials, with a productivity of up to 10 kg per hour.
The method minimizes defects that occur in the production of large steel products, such as crankshafts and bearing housings. Thanks to it, it is possible to obtain material with a structure close to a cast sample. The resulting blanks are well processed by cutting.
