The enterprise will produce quartz preforms, from which optical fiber for fiber optic cables is drawn. This is reported by the publication "Kommersant," citing its sources. The same sources say that the enterprise may be built by 2027.
Currently, quartz preforms are not produced in Russia; they are purchased in friendly China and India. Launching their production in Russia may cost from 10 to 20 billion rubles.
This will be handled by OVS Quartz LLC, a subsidiary of the only domestic fiber optic manufacturer in Russia, the Mordovian company Optic Fiber Systems (OVS). Previously, OVS agreed to mark its products to avoid counterfeiting in the market.
