Free Window Below 25 Meters: Military Expert Points Out Shortcomings of Shipborne S-300F SAM System

Damantsev: Shortcoming of S-300F SAM System is Limitation of Lower Limit at Echelons Less Than 25 m

Ships of the Russian Pacific Fleet in the Red Sea conducted a complex of naval exercises to counter the sabotage forces of a mock enemy, including the use of S-300 "Fort" anti-aircraft missile systems of the shipborne modification. However, these installations have certain limitations, according to military expert Evgeny Damantsev.

According to him, a significant disadvantage of the S-300F SAM system in the standard modification is the limitation of the lower limit of intercepted air attack weapons operating at echelons less than 25 m.

This may be due to corresponding limitations in the selection capabilities of the 3R41 illumination and guidance radar in the lower sector on the water surface.

The military expert recalled that the trajectories of most modern subsonic anti-ship cruise missiles, including the "Harpoon" and AGM-158C LRASM, lie at an altitude of about 3-10 meters above the crest of the wave.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Russian electronic warfare diverted a western GMLRS projectile and saved the Malva self-propelled gun from being hit. As a result, domestic equipment escaped with minor damage.
