Заряжает на ходу в любую погоду: в Новосибирске разработали бесконтактную зарядку для беспилотников

The device is removable and attaches to the bottom of the drone's structure

Novgorod State University named after Yaroslav the Wise (NovSU) has created a removable device for contactless charging of drones. This was reported by the university's press service.

The innovation allows charging an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in any weather without interrupting the flight. Initially, the development was planned to be used for drones requiring frequent recharging.

Subsequently, it turned out that such a device can also be used for drones with vertical take-off and landing, including aircraft type, to increase their autonomy and efficiency in long missions. At the same time, the use of such charging will not require intervention inside the structure of the aircraft: it is removable and easily attached to the bottom of the drone.

The new device is equipped with an inductive wireless charger. Due to it, the UAV is charged in a contactless way. This eliminates problems with oxidation of the drone's contact elements and makes it possible to use charging in any weather.

The charging station is equipped with a transmitting coil connected to a power source, and the UAV is equipped with a receiving coil. They operate at the same resonant frequency. When alternating current is applied to the transmitting coil, a magnetic field is formed, which induces alternating current in the receiving coil. This is how the UAV is charged.

In ordinary household quadcopters, the average flight duration is approximately 30 minutes. After that, the operator will need to return the drone to the base and connect it to the battery or network. Thanks to the developed charger, the drone can receive electric current during flight without human intervention.

In the future, the developers plan to create a charging prototype and conduct tests. It is planned to expand the functionality of the innovation by integrating it with a GNSS module. This will increase the accuracy and autonomy of the UAV in space.

It is worth noting that at the beginning of this year in Russia, a similar device was invented. The stationary tower "Ladon", designed for contactless charging of UAV batteries for civilian purposes.
