Cars under the VOLGA brand (copies of Chinese Changan) will be produced on the territory of the Nizhny Novgorod automotive cluster. The assembly plan will be 100 thousand cars per year. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov at the Innoprom exhibition in Yekaterinburg.
They plan to produce about 100 thousand cars. This is an approximate volume that they once produced for the Volga.
Note that the revived Volgas will be assembled by a company called Passenger Car Production. They want to establish a full cycle of car production in 2025. The GAZ Group will invest about 50 billion rubles in the brand relaunch, according to insiders.
GAZ disowned Chinese engines
Meanwhile, the Gorky Automobile Plant has denied rumors about the production of Chinese engines at the former Shaeffler plant in the Ulyanovsk region. Information about this first appeared in January of this year. Now, representatives of the plant have decided to comment on it.
The information that GAZ will be engaged in the production of engines at the former Shaeffler plant is absolutely not true. GAZ has not planned and does not plan any projects at the former Schaeffler plant.
The company emphasized that the agreement with the Administration of the Ulyanovsk region concerned the development of the Ulyanovsk Motor Plant, but had nothing to do with the Schaeffler plant.
As a reminder, the Schaeffler plant, located in the Ulyanovsk region, has been producing various automotive components since 2014. In December 2023, the German company sold the assets of the enterprise to PromAvtoKonsalt.
