Russian specialists have studied the internal structure and features of the cluster submunition of the American ATACMS missile. They found that the M74 submunition is a spherical object of green color, with a total of 275 pieces in the missile.
The cassette opens approximately two hundred meters above the ground. Due to the protruding fins, the oncoming flow causes the submunition to begin to rotate.
When it reaches about two thousand revolutions, the centrifugal stops diverge to the sides and the engine inside turns. The detonator cap is opposite the firing pin. When it hits the surface, the ammunition explodes.
ATACMS is an operational-tactical ballistic missile developed by Lockheed Martin. It can be launched from multiple launch rocket systems, including M142 HIMARS.
Earlier it became known that the missile guidance and correction system fell into the hands of Russian experts - they are studying the block of laser gyroscopes and GPS module.
