Russian military personnel at the front are using modernized low-observable Geran-2 kamikaze drones. The UAVs received shielding of the lower hemisphere and with an 8-beam vertically oriented radiation pattern.
The UAV is capable of low-altitude flight at an echelon of about 45 m even under heavy machine-gun fire from the enemy. However, these strike drones need to be equipped with modules for firing dipole reflectors and integrated electronic warfare systems of the X/Ku-band, said military expert Yevgeny Damantsev.
SAM IRIS-T SLM/SLS, AIM-132 ASRAAM, and so on, in some cases, intercept these drones without much difficulty. An even greater threat to the Geran-2s is posed by tactical LMM Martlet and Stormer HVM missile systems with semi-automatic laser-beam guidance systems.
Tactical and technical characteristics of the Geran-2 UAV:
- Wingspan — 2.5 meters
- Length — 3.5 meters
- Weight — 200 kilograms
- Flight range — 2000 kilometers
- Speed — 180 kilometers per hour
- Warhead — 50 kilograms
Earlier, Geran-2 drones were shown at a parade in Minsk. In addition, Russian Iskander-M OTRKs and Tor-M2K SAMs appeared there.
