Specialists of the Ural State Mining University (USMU) have created and integrated into production an aerodynamic tunnel for simulating conditions during explosions and fires. This was announced by Vadim Minin, Advisor to the Rectorate of USMU.
According to the developer, the tunnel is equipped with injection and suction fans. By regulating the power of the fans, it is possible to control the speed of air flows and pressure drops.
With their help, a nature-like system is recreated, where increased pressure occurs in one zone, and decreased pressure in another (anticyclone and cyclone). And air masses move from the first area to the second.
According to Vadim Minin, the tunnel can be used to test the reliability of life support systems and evacuation routes in different types of buildings. The device allows simulating situations that occur during explosions and fires in confined spaces. These properties will help to competently design load-bearing structures in mines.
During an explosion, under the action of a shock wave, air is similar to a solid in its properties. Given that blasting operations are carried out regularly in the mine, the force of the destructive impact can be significant.
The new development is also planned to be used for testing the operation of drones indoors.
Earlier www1.ru reported that a system for rapid detection of emergencies based on AI was developed in St. Petersburg.
