Engineers at JSC United Engine Corporation (UEC) have developed the first VK-650V gas turbine engine for Russian light-class helicopters. It will replace Pratt & Whitney and Arrius engines on Ansat and Ka-226 helicopters.
The UEC press service reported that the latest domestic developments were used in creating the engine. This includes the newest materials and design solutions that were not previously used for engines of this type. Designers performed calculations using 3D optimization methods. In addition, individual VK-650V components were manufactured on 3D printers.
This is a gas turbine engine in the 500-700 hp power class. Today, we are developing this engine for Ansat and Ka-226 helicopters. It can also be installed on other aircraft. There was a need to replace foreign counterparts, such as Arrius. Our engine is very modern, and we have taken an innovative path.
