The Tula-based "Oktava" plant (part of Rostec Group) has modernized the "Obereg" body armor, increasing its protection area by 50%. A contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense has already been signed, and a new batch of equipment will enter service with the troops in the near future, Rostec's press service reported.
"Obereg" body armor belongs to protection class BR-4. They effectively protect against bullets from automatic weapons of 7.62×39 mm and 5.45×39 mm calibers. Their protective elements are based on ceramic armor plates.
Protection against fragments is provided through the use of aramid fiber. This allows the military to use ammunition without additional armor plates when there is no danger of being wounded by small arms.
"Obereg" body armor is characterized by its low weight compared to other analogues. High ergonomic properties allow the military to reduce the load on the spine and maintain mobility. The properties of the equipment are maintained during sudden temperature changes (from –40 °C to +40 °C).
In the basic version of the modernized equipment, the protection area is 70 dm2. At the same time, the ammunition remains comfortable to wear and does not restrict the mobility of the fighter. The company's specialists have done a great job of refining the product to provide our military personnel with high-quality and reliable individual protection, taking into account the variability of the damaging factors of the modern battlefield.
It is worth mentioning that the "Obereg" body armor has already received high marks from the military. During the tests, the protection withstood a hit from a powerful rifle bullet (8.6×70 mm) Lapua Magnum.
