Healthy lymph nodes will be distinguished from diseased ones in a couple of minutes

A rapid method for detecting breast cancer has been created at the Privolzhsky Research Medical University (PRMU). It will help differentiate between healthy and tumor tissues in lymph nodes in a matter of minutes. This was reported in the press service of the university.

Lymph node samples are exposed to a pulsed laser, creating tissue luminescence. Specialists locate the disease by the decay time of radiation in the tissues.

It will take only a few minutes to collect and analyze the data, and no consumables are required, which are needed for histology.

Previously, the diagnosis of cancerous tumors took several weeks — now it is done almost instantly. The accuracy of the new method — 97%.

The development has already shown effectiveness on lymph node samples taken from 47 patients with breast cancer. The authors of the idea plan to use the method to detect other types of tumors as well. In the future, artificial intelligence will be integrated into it for adaptation in clinical practice.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russian scientists have learned to remove tumors using electromagnetic radiation.
