Reproductive specialists have begun to use artificial intelligence (AI) to select genetic material. With its help, it is possible to increase the chances of a successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure.
Currently, the probability of conceiving and giving birth to a child with IVF is about 30%. One of the important factors affecting the course of the procedure is the choice of genetic material.
How AI helps in IVF
AI ranks embryos: which one to use and which one to freeze, and also selects gametes (reproductive cells) suitable for IVF. In addition, AI helps to select sperm, taking into account the following indicators:
- swimming model
- direction of movement
- ratio of head to tail
Scientists are confident that AI can determine the optimal combination of sperm and egg cells to increase the chances of fertilization.
Mathematical accuracy
Scientists have made a significant contribution to reproductive medicine thanks to AI. Already, they can determine the probability of success of the IVF procedure with an accuracy of up to 69.3%. At the same time, the accuracy of classifying male sperm according to various parameters has approached 90%. Experts are confident that over time, the accuracy of AI calculations will reach 90%.
