The fourth catamaran of Project 04580, developed by order of Neva Travel, is nearing completion at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant. The vessel, named "Fort Totleben" after the fort of the same name, was launched on May 6. In total, Neva Travel plans to receive six such catamarans, two of which were launched last year, successfully passed tests and are already operated by the company, the third catamaran of the project "Fort Alexander I" was launched at the end of April.
The vessel, designed for passenger transportation, will become part of the company's regular route. The project received support from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and the State Transport Leasing Company, which emphasizes the strategic importance of new developments for the development of maritime tourism and transport infrastructure.
The construction of catamarans of the Kotlin project is carried out under the supervision of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping. These vessels have high speed and seaworthiness, which allows them to successfully overcome waves of more than 1.5 meters high.
Kotlin catamarans are designed to pass under the low bridges of St. Petersburg. They are equipped with an open upper deck and panoramic lounges, accommodating up to two hundred passengers. The length of each catamaran is 32 meters, the width is 8.7 meters. The engine power reaches 882 kW, and the maximum speed is 31 knots.
The name "Fort Totleben" perpetuates the name of Eduard Ivanovich Totleben, a famous engineer whose work is associated with the modernization of the Kronstadt Fortress. Located near Kotlin Island, the fort played an important role in the defense during the Great Patriotic War, thanks to its artillery power and strategic location.
During the Great Patriotic War, Fort Totleben was part of the first line of defense, armed with guns ranging in caliber from 45 to 254 millimeters. It could repel the enemy's advance by water and shell the territory captured by enemy troops at distances of up to 20 km. The artillerymen proudly called it "fort-sniper".
The company "Neva-travel" is actively involved in the development of this project, launching a new high-speed route connecting the center of St. Petersburg with Kronstadt. Currently, the design and construction of new high-speed passenger catamarans of the Kotlin project is also underway.
