The "Pantsir" anti-aircraft missile and gun systems of various modifications operate to protect Russian cities and the capital as part of the air defense system, along with electronic warfare systems and other means.
This was stated in an interview with the "Krasnaya Zvezda" newspaper by the commander of the air defense and missile defense forces, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces, Lieutenant General Andrei Semyonov. According to him, since the beginning of 2022, "colossal work has been carried out to strengthen the air and missile defense" of Russian cities.
More than 50 "Pantsir" combat vehicles, as well as other means of combating small-sized air targets, including portable MANPADS, various electronic warfare systems, have been deployed to effectively cover against UAV strikes. The number of forces and assets constantly on combat duty for air defense has been significantly increased. In all regions, constant work is underway to improve the equipment of combat positions, and mayors of cities and governors of regions provide great assistance in this.
Semyonov assured that more than 3,000 people maintain air defense of Moscow and other Russian cities every day.
"Pantsir" is a Russian anti-aircraft missile and gun system developed for the defense of civilian and military facilities on land and sea. The family was created by the Tula KBP Instrument Design Bureau named after Shipunov, which is part of the "Vysokotochnye komplexy" of the Rostec State Corporation.
The latest of the land-based versions, the modernized Pantsir-SM SAM system, is the most multifunctional. It is capable of hitting even copters, mortar mines and other small targets, and the number of missiles it can fire at multiple targets at one time reaches almost one hundred.
