A plant assembling Scania and MAN trucks has officially closed in St. Petersburg. The owning company, "Truck Production Rus," ceased its operations on April 1st. The production site, which had been idle for two years, failed to establish logistical chains disrupted by Western sanctions.
The plant is not operating
An industry source stated that the enterprise would be mothballed indefinitely. He explained the plant's problems as stemming from the lack of a full-fledged assembly line and unpreparedness for localizing production.
As a reminder, "Truck Production Rus" produced trucks under a contract. Components were supplied by ООО "MAN Truck & Bus Production Rus" and ООО "Scania–Peter," which also jointly owned the plant on equal terms.
The production site halted operations in 2022 when the supply of parts ceased. By the end of 2023, its financial performance had deteriorated.
Auto expert Maxim Kadakov stated that BAZ tractors could be assembled at the plant site. However, components would need to be brought to Shushary because the production is assembly-based rather than a conveyor line.
