Last year, the Russian operating system (OS) market for computers and servers increased by 57% to 11.3 billion rubles compared to 2022, according to analysts at Strategy Partners.
The growth is explained by two factors: the requirements of the Ministry of Digital Development for the transition of the state segment to domestic software, and the inability to extend licenses for foreign software. In particular, this refers to Windows from Microsoft.
Experts believe that the refusal of the American IT giant to work with large and medium-sized Russian companies will become the main driver for increasing sales of OS from Russian developers in the future.
Currently, the "big three" developers, which account for 97% of the market, are as follows:
- "Astra Group" (76%)
- "Basalt SPO" (11%)
- "Red Soft" (10%)
Earlier, a source reported that MTS, VK, and Rostelecom want to buy Russian OS developers. Details of potential deals are not disclosed.
