Russian engineers have developed several optical homing systems for FPV drones to turn them into an air-launched self-guided torpedo mode. This was stated by Dmitry Kuzyakin, head of the Center for Integrated Unmanned Solutions (TsKBR).
According to him, the systems are being tested in the combat zone, but it has already been proven that the technology has great potential.
Targets can be ground-based stationary, mobile or aerial
The head of TsKBR explained that the operator directs the FPV drone to the area where the enemy is located. When an enemy is detected, a search frame of the sight is fixed on it, and a signal is sent to the drone to hold the target. After that, the FPV drone is switched to self-guided torpedo mode - it finds the target and destroys it.
The new systems solve the problem of losing communication with kamikaze drones over long distances. Now operators will not have to get close to the enemy to complete the task, which will make their work safer.
Earlier, Russian specialists presented a new FPV drone "Gortenziya-10".
