Import-substituted aircraft MC-21 will be able to land in zero visibility conditions

Rostec stated that the landing of the MC-21 will be safe even in zero visibility conditions

The Russian medium-range passenger aircraft MC-21-310, which is being developed by specialists from UAC (part of Rostec), will be able to land even in zero visibility conditions, the state corporation's press service reported.

It is specified that the aircraft is equipped with an automatic landing system that recognizes the runway in almost zero visibility conditions. It will help the pilot smoothly guide the aircraft to the runway.

Pilots have already begun flights as part of the factory testing program for the automatic landing system. This will be followed by certification tests.

Last week, pilots Oleg Mutovitin and Andrey Voropaev made a landing of category IIIA ICAO. This refers to a landing with a runway visual range of at least 200 m.

It is expected that after receiving permission from Rosaviatsia, import-substituted MC-21s will be supplied to Russian air carriers. Belavia is also interested in the new UAC aircraft.
