Deputies of the lower house of the Russian parliament adopted in the first reading a draft law concerning the control of authorization systems during a plenary session. In particular, Russian websites and applications (with foreign participation) must remove login buttons using Google and Apple ID from December 1, said State Duma deputy Anton Gorelkin.
According to the parliamentarian, the State Duma unanimously supported this initiative. It is noted that a transition period for new authorization systems is simultaneously established until January 1, 2025.
It was assumed that the changes would come into force on December 1, 2023, but after discussions with market representatives, it became clear that not all digital platforms would have time to prepare and begin to comply with the new law within the established timeframe, Gorelkin explained.
Recall that in July 2023, amendments to 149-FZ ("On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection") were adopted. Now users can log in to websites and applications using a Russian mobile operator number, through Gosuslugi, a biometric system (UBS), or a service controlled by a Russian IT company.
Earlier it was reported that more than ten foreign companies, including Google, are threatened with large fines for refusing to localize data about Russian users. This is a violation of the current legislation of the Russian Federation.
