"Open Mobile Platform" presented the interface and interaction patterns for the new version of its domestic OS "Aurora" at the Mobius Autumn 2023 professional conference in St. Petersburg.
"Aurora 5.0" is only being prepared for release, but some of its details are already tangible.
What's new in "Aurora 5.0"
Based on the previous version of this OS and user research, the new version was made more focused on the office employee. The following appear:
- new tablet interface;
- improved gesture control;
- new components of the system software graphics library elements;
- new level of convenience in a multitasking environment.
Where the OS "Aurora" is used
Initially, this solution is designed for users from large companies and government agencies who need to minimize the risk of data leakage. User data and their transmission channels are encrypted, and each device is managed through a separate "Aurora Center".
All information is stored on its servers, and not on the device. In case of theft or loss, any information from the device can be quickly remotely erased.
Until recently, users could not purchase laptops, tablets, or smartphones with this OS on their own. Equipment was purchased by companies through government procurement or commercial procurement, and transferred to users as corporate devices.
However, now any customer can buy a tablet or smartphone with the "Aurora" mobile OS. The Russian company "Fplus" installed it on two of its new products from the Register of Industrial Products of the Ministry of Industry and Trade: the Life Tab Plus tablet and the R570E protected smartphone. Both devices are available for sale.
According to the manufacturers, in addition to the Russian OS, they are loaded with the domestic antivirus Dr.Web and native office software for the OS "Aurora" - "MyOffice Documents". "MyOffice Documents" is able to work with text, spreadsheet files and presentations even without an Internet connection.
In addition, the OS "Aurora" became the basis for the prototype of the SBPay payment application. And VTB announced that it was the first among Russian banks to develop a banking application based on "Aurora", which is being tested this month.
It will provide users with popular services: transfers and payments for every day, payment by camera using a QR code, quick search for ATMs and branches using geolocation, updating profile data through the State Services, as well as support for a dark theme for comfortable work. Testing will last until June 2024.
