"Rosseti" introduces innovative optical transformers at Siberian substations

Optical devices, unlike electromagnetic ones, provide data in digital form

The Rosseti power grid holding announced the introduction of innovative optical measuring transformers into pilot operation at Siberian substations.

One of them will be installed at the 220 kV "Nadym" substation in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District; a little earlier, two innovative transformers were installed in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District - Yugra at the 500 kV "Somkinskaya" and "Trachukovskaya" substations.

Optical transformers can increase the potential reliability of power facilities, but they also have many other advantages. Thus, unlike electromagnetic devices, optical ones provide data immediately in digital form. They are also explosion-proof and fire-safe, and weigh 5-10 times less than traditional counterparts.
