AEVT: Russian airlines' losses from sales in 2022 amounted to 144 billion rubles

The stability of the industry was ensured by subsidizing ticket prices and the kerosene damper

According to the Interfax agency, citing a report from the Association of Air Transport Operators (AEVT), Russian air carriers ended 2022 with a total loss from sales of 144 billion rubles. It is noted that the total revenues of air carriers decreased by 13% last year, and total expenses decreased by 3%.

«In 2022, despite significant losses from sales, it was possible to ensure the relative financial and economic stability of most airlines», — reports AEVT. The positive role played by government subsidies for domestic transportation and the kerosene damper was noted.

As a reminder, the damper comes into effect when the export price of fuel exceeds its cost in the Russian Federation, in which case the budget compensates 65% of the difference. As for subsidies, last year Russian airlines received 100 billion rubles in subsidies to reimburse operating expenses for flights within the Russian Federation.

AEVT believes that the passenger traffic of Russian airlines this year may reach the level of 2021, when 111 million people were transported. But cargo transportation is predicted to decline further due to restrictions on air traffic with countries far abroad.
