On Airborne Forces Day, new tests of the "Lotos" self-propelled artillery system were announced: the self-propelled gun withstood temperatures from -60 to +60 degrees Celsius

The combat vehicle is being created as a replacement for older artillery systems of the airborne troops and surpasses the "Nona-SM" in firing range

On Airborne Forces Day, the results of tests of the new Russian 120-mm self-propelled artillery system "Lotos" became known. The vehicle, developed for the Airborne Forces, confirmed its operability in extreme temperatures from -60 to +60 degrees Celsius, as well as in high humidity and difficult climatic conditions.

The developer of the SAO is JSC "TsNIITochMash", part of the "Kalashnikov" concern of the "Rostec" state corporation. During the tests, the self-propelled gun was checked for resistance to various factors, including operation at relative air humidity up to 100% without reducing the declared characteristics.

One of the key features of the SAO is the possibility of air-dropping from military transport aircraft. The design of the vehicle also provides protection for the crew and equipment from radiation exposure during a nuclear explosion.

In addition, the "Lotos" passed buoyancy tests at a water range with waves up to three points. The tests showed that the vehicle retains the ability to perform tasks after prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures: six hours at +60 and six hours at -60 degrees.

According to the developers, the new self-propelled gun surpasses the SAO "Nona-SM" by approximately 1.5 times in firing range with standard high-explosive fragmentation ammunition. Currently, the "Lotos" is undergoing state tests according to the schedule approved by the customer.

The 120-mm SAO "Lotos" is being created specifically for the Russian Airborne Forces and should increase the capabilities of airborne units for fire support in various climatic and combat conditions.

The editorial board of "Pervy Tekhnichesky" congratulates servicemen and veterans of the Russian Airborne Forces on the holiday - Airborne Forces Day. We wish the "winged infantry" good health, reliable rear, professional success, new achievements in mastering modern technology, and always a safe return home.
