The modernized BMP-3 was first presented at the international exhibition of weapons and military equipment VIDEX-2024 in Hanoi (Vietnam). The basic version of the combat vehicle has undergone significant changes.

It received additional protection against FPV drones. A "visor" or "barbecue" - a lattice or mesh dome - is mounted on the turret. In addition, an improved version of the UTD-32 diesel engine has been developed for the BMP-3.

In the Asia-Pacific region (APR), infantry fighting vehicles are operated by Indonesia and South Korea. Vietnam has a total fleet of several hundred BMP-1s and BMP-2s, acquired in the late 1970s. Cambodia is armed with BMP-1s.

They are also armed with 54 BT-3F tracked floating armored personnel carriers, created on the basis of the basic BMP-3. Since 1996, the South Korean military has been operating about 70 BMP-3s.
