The updated Il-114-300 turboprop aircraft has been significantly redesigned compared to the original version. The airliner will ensure the operation of short-haul air routes in Russia, said Roman Gusarov, editor-in-chief of Avia.ru portal, aviation expert.
Key changes
Ilyushin specialists updated the engines, aerodynamics, control system and a number of other components. The aircraft's cockpit has become more ergonomic and equipped with a new digital flight and navigation system, Rostec State Corporation noted.
According to Ilyushin's plan, in the summer of 2025, the prototype aircraft will be equipped with a new anti-icing system, and in the fall, with the interior of the passenger cabin.
Revival of the Soviet project Il-114
Analysts noted that the Il-114-300 became a revival of the Soviet project Il-114, developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. However, then the large-scale production of the aircraft never started due to the economic crisis and the collapse of the USSR.
Vladimir Popov, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Honored Pilot of the Russian Federation, noted that the tests of the Il-114-300 were carried out in the 90s, but everything was very delayed due to disruptions in production processes and the lack of political will.
At that time, decisions on the development of civil aviation were made on the initiative of design bureaus and factories, rather than with the support of the state.
Strategic importance of the project
Gusarov recalled that the production of the Il-114-300 was transferred to Russia, although the original Il-114 was originally planned to be launched at the TAPOiCh plant in Tashkent, which emphasizes the strategic importance of the project.
In the current conditions, when deliveries of Western aircraft have been stopped, the commissioning of new domestically produced aircraft is critical.
