The most underestimated aircraft of its era, the Tu-204/214, has returned to Russian civil aviation after many years. Moreover, many carriers are making plans for the medium-range aircraft, because it has excellent flight performance characteristics.

Last year, Tupolev launched an Innovative Design Center for the modernization of the Tu-214. Talented and creative specialists were invited to participate in the project, ready to offer fresh ideas and developments in the field of aircraft construction.
Konstantin Timofeev, Managing Director of Tupolev PJSC, noted that the Tu-214 aircraft is a machine with its own advantages and potential for development.
The advantages are a very good wing, certified engines, a high-quality fuselage and horizontal tail. In terms of its flight performance, it turned out to be an almost ideal aircraft, but we will continue to work on its improvement. The task for the near future is to reduce its weight. We do not plan to change the format, it will be the same length, width, height, passenger capacity, but we will work on optimizing the weight.
As we can see, initially the modernization plans are aimed at reducing the weight of the aircraft, which will affect commercial load and fuel efficiency, and so on.
Weight optimization will help increase various economic indicators and thereby increase the attractiveness of the aircraft for carriers. In general, the Tu-214 project continues to develop actively, so by the time it is put into mass operation, we will see a more modernized and optimized version of this aircraft.
