"Developers crossed themselves": How the PD-14 engine modernization will affect the production of the MC-21

More than 14 billion rubles were allocated to improve the power plant

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will allocate 14.2 billion rubles for research and development work to improve the PD-14 aircraft engine, which will power the MC-21 aircraft. Oleg Panteleev, Executive Director of the Aviaport agency, explained how the modernization of the power unit will ultimately affect the production of the airliner.

The aviation expert noted the importance of the PD-14 project, as it was initially decided to develop a basic gas generator, on the basis of which modifications with different thrust would be created.

The PD-14 creation project is not just an engine for the MC-21 aircraft. This is the most modern production, a set of critical technologies, the resumption of experience in creating modern aircraft engines.
Oleg Panteleev, aviation expert

According to him, the great potential for creating modifications and the most demanded dimension make the PD-14 the main aircraft engine for domestic civil aviation.

In general, it must be admitted that against the background of problems with PW engines faced by airlines, our developers literally crossed themselves when they realized what difficulties the American sanctions had averted them from.
Oleg Panteleev, aviation expert

Earlier www1.ru reported that the "inner world" of the PD-14 aircraft engine was shown in detail for the first time: the temperature is like on Venus.
