Russia has one of the largest fleets in the world, second only to China and the United States. This is according to military expert Brent M. Eastwood in an article for 19fortyfive.
According to the World Directory of Modern Military Warships, China's fleet has 405 vessels. The United States has 11 aircraft carriers and 296 warships.
Russia ranks third with 283 fleet units. It has only one aircraft carrier, "Admiral Nakhimov," which has survived more than one breakdown and is still under repair. However, the strength of the Russian Navy is its submarine fleet.
Indonesia follows Russia, with 245 warships at its disposal. South Korea has 182 ships.
The Chinese and American fleets are certainly the best. Russia has powerful submarines, but the lack of an operational aircraft carrier is a flagrant weakness.
