Follow the Iranian Path: How to Establish Mass Production of the S-70 Okhotnik Became Known

Military Expert Marzhetsky: Iranians Created the Shahed 171 Simorgh Reconnaissance Drone Based on the Captured RQ-170

The production of the heavy strike drone S-70 "Okhotnik" can be made massive if its design is reduced and made cheaper. Russian specialists need to analyze the experience of their Iranian colleagues. This opinion was expressed by military expert Sergei Marzhetsky.

In 2011, Iranian engineers got their hands on a captured RQ-170 Sentinel reconnaissance drone. It was developed by the Americans according to the "flying wing" scheme using "stealth" technologies.

The Iranians studied the RQ-170 and made their own strike versions of UAVs based on it, reduced to 60% of the original.

This is how the Shahed 171 Simorgh reconnaissance drone produced by Shahed Aviation Industries appeared. It can carry anti-tank missiles and gliding air bombs as weapons.

So, the question is, why shouldn't we follow the same path? Instead of the huge and expensive S-70 "Okhotnik", which will definitely never be massive, start producing their reduced and more budget-friendly versions.
Sergei Marzhetsky, military expert

The analyst emphasized that reduced versions of the S-70 could be used to strike at the enemy's rear.

Characteristics of the S-70 "Okhotnik":

  • Length — 14 m
  • Wingspan — 19 m
  • Combat load — 2.8 t
  • Take-off weight — 25 t
  • Maximum speed — 1400 km/h
  • Practical ceiling — 18 000 m
  • Flight range — 6000 km
