Analyst Damantsev: the 10ES1 sensor on the "Pantsir-S1" SAM system is capable of identifying the SCALP-EG missile among the ADM-160B false targets

Russian anti-aircraft units have begun to detect ADM-160B false air targets when repelling attacks by SCALP-EG missiles. Military expert Evgeny Damantsev explained how to effectively counter this threat.

The analyst clarified that equipped with advanced programmable Luneburg lenses, ADM-160B false targets are capable of imitating SCALP-EG and Storm Shadow missiles with an effective reflecting surface (ERS) coefficient of 0.03 m².

At the same time, it is difficult for the 92N6 illumination radars of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) to identify SCALP-EG against the background of ADM-160B false targets.

But when approaching at a distance of less than 15 km, the 10ES1 thermal imaging sensor from the "Pantsir-S1" anti-aircraft missile and gun system (SAM system) is capable of selecting SCALP-EG among ADM-160B. There will be no oversupply of target channels with false targets.

Main characteristics of the "Pantsir-S1" SAM system using the example of hitting an aircraft with an effective scattering area of 2 m² and a flight speed of 300 m/s:

  • Missile armament in range — 1200-20000 m, in height — 15-15000 m
  • Cannon armament in range — 200-4000 m, in height — 0-3000 m
  • Number of simultaneously fired targets — 4
  • Maximum speed of targets hit — 1000 m/s
