The Uralvagonzavod concern (part of Rostec) maintains a high rate of production of T-72B3M tanks of the 2022 model with improved coverage of the frontal, side, and rear projections of the turret and hull with elements of dynamic protection 4S22 "Kontakt-5" and 4S23 "Relikt".
However, some combat vehicles of this series have one obvious drawback associated with the gunner's sight, according to military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
The only disadvantage of the tank is the equipping with the outdated 1PN96MT gunner's sight with a target identification range of the "tank/BMP" type at night up to 2200 m, while the multi-channel "Sosna-U" is installed as a priority on the T-90M "Proryv-3".
The authors of the "Var Teknik" channel added that the 1PN96MT sight is greatly simplified compared to the "Sosna-U", without an onboard computer and with passive cooling of the thermal imaging matrix, which led to a decrease in the quality of the output image.
In general, the effective operating range has decreased from 5000 m when using "Sosna-U" to only 3000 m on 1PN96MT.
The T-72B3M also received an improved anti-drone "visor" with two-layer zigzag modules of passive protection to defocus the cumulative jets of reactive anti-tank grenades.
