The Uralvagonzavod concern continues to develop promising armored vehicles with gas turbine engines, improving the power plants themselves and the systems that ensure their operation. This was announced by Alexander Potapov, the general director of the concern, on the eve of the company's 90th anniversary.
According to Potapov, the concern has expanded its line of serial equipment with such engines and continues to work on new vehicles in cooperation with potential customers. He did not disclose specific characteristics of promising developments or their timelines.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of our T-80 gas turbine vehicle. The transition to a land-based gas turbine engine proved to be one of the most successful and dynamic. Many love the T-80. We have significantly expanded the line of serial vehicles based on the gas turbine engine and continue to work with potential customers on new promising developments. The technical characteristics of the engine and its support systems are constantly improving, and vehicles based on it are highly in demand.
The gas turbine engine distinguishes the T-80 from most other main battle tanks that use diesel power plants. This scheme allows for high specific power and provides the vehicle with high mobility, but requires special attention to fuel consumption and the operation of auxiliary systems. UVZ expects further improvement of the engine and its support to expand the capabilities of armored vehicles on the gas turbine platform.
