On the night of October 5, two facilities were damaged on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant — a laboratory building and a radioactive waste processing building. The attack was reported by Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev; the station's press service confirmed the damage. According to the Russian side, the roofs of both buildings were damaged, and there were no casualties.
The laboratory building is located approximately 200 m from power units No. 4 and No. 5. The second damaged facility is directly related to the handling and processing of radioactive waste. The ZNPP press service stated that strikes on this infrastructure are potentially dangerous, as damage to equipment could complicate the safe handling of radioactive materials.
At the same time, Likhachev reported that there is no threat to nuclear safety after the night incident. Monitoring of equipment condition and radiation situation continues at the industrial site.
The new attack occurred against the backdrop of ongoing problems with the ZNPP's power supply infrastructure. Previously, the station repeatedly lost external power, and in August after the disconnection of the Ferrosplavnaya-1 line, it was forced to receive electricity for its own needs from diesel generators for a long time.
In September, damage also occurred at a remote radiation monitoring post, although other monitoring tools continued to operate.
